Calling All Students to Volunteer

The Leaders Readers Network partners with students and teachers across the nation to cultivate leaders who provide brand new books, supplies, and projects to support early literacy at underfunded schools. This school year, we are one of the Youth Service America (YSA) Lead Agencies where nonprofits and schools work together to activate thousands of youth volunteers.

We are gearing up to activate 500 students on 9/11, a National Day of Service, to participate in the Pay It Forward project for the Military Children Book Project. Student volunteers from across the nation will write words of encouragement on stickers that will be placed inside brand new books for students at Title 1 Schools across the United States. This Pay It Forward Project was created with the goal of simultaneously spreading kindness and promoting literacy. Steven A. Culbertson, President and CEO of YSA, comments, "We are thrilled to partner with teachers and students across the US through The Leaders Readers Network and the thousands of young people nation-wide who will serve and celebrate on these days of service.” He adds that “Volunteering is a gateway to a lifetime of civic participation and days of service are on-ramps to volunteering, especially for first-time volunteers.”

Through our projects, The Leaders Readers Network puts the power of spreading literacy and kindness in the hands of today's youth in hopes that they will get inspired to be change-makers in their own communities. The Military Children Book Project on 9/11 is an easy way for all students to volunteer with their class, organization, or by themselves. We are halfway to our goal of 500 student volunteers and are still looking for aspiring youth change-makers. Students, sign up today and join us to share a love for reading with students in need.
