4,000 Free Books Gifted at Spurs + Frost Bank Back-to-School Bash

San Antonio, TX – The Leaders Readers Network (TLRN) is excited to continue our successful partnership with First Book, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing new books to children in need. On August 8th, TLRN and First Book collaborated to distribute 4,000 new books at the Spurs and Frost Bank Back to School Bash. Our collaboration supported  families and children in San Antonio, with a special focus on bilingual and culturally diverse titles that celebrate the city’s rich diversity.

The event was memorable, as educators from across the city came together to hand out books to smiling children, inspiring young minds and setting an optimistic tone for the upcoming school year. TLRN and First Book are committed to bringing our community together, supporting community-driven book distributions. Both organizations seek to address critical literacy challenges, particularly for children in underfunded schools where resources are limited.

Through this collaboration, TLRN and First Book work alongside one another to further book access in schools and communities. Together, we are ensuring that children have access to books that inspire lifelong readers.

This partnership will continue to have a lasting impact on the San Antonio community as we support educators and classrooms with books, literacy lessons, service projects and positive community support. Therese Shields, the Regional Director of TLRN in San Antonio, expressed her gratitude for First Book’s unwavering support. “First Book’s commitment to advancing literacy has allowed us to reach thousands of children in San Antonio, providing them with books that reflect their cultures, languages, and experiences. This partnership is crucial in establishing a strong literacy foundation for our children,” she stated.

Through their ongoing collaboration, TLRN and First Book aim to create lasting change for children, educators, and families in San Antonio. Together, they are making significant progress toward ensuring that every child has access to the books they deserve—books that not only support academic growth but also help strengthen their connection to their heritage and community. This initiative highlights TLRN's commitment to empowering children, educators, and families with the resources needed for educational success and a brighter future.
