Join us for the 2024 Panhandle Gives
The Panhandle Gives is an annual event hosted and coordinated by the Amarillo Area Foundation (AAF). The event begins on the Monday before Thanksgiving and ends on the global day of giving known as Giving Tuesday. This year, that's November 25 - December 3, 2024. There are hundreds of organizations in the Texas Panhandle participating in this community effort to raise funds for our community.
“The Leaders Readers Network’s goal is to acquire the requisite funding to support educators and classrooms with literacy resources, books, service projects which will increase literacy rates. Every dollar towards our $75.000 goal counts. You can help support the expansion of our Literacy Fellowship program throughout current and additional schools in order to ensure more teachers are provided with the myriad literacy resources to support their students' diverse academic needs. Furthermore, the professional development opportunities extended to Literacy Fellowship program teachers would ensure they could practically incorporate the books from their classroom libraries into their lesson plans with additional books for various service projects to foster students' empathy when working with others and the requisite foundational knowledge to advocate for causes which improve our community through action. Moreover, the additional books would be utilized to facilitate read-aloud activities on the campuses we serve. Together, we can ensure a sustainable, long-term impact is made as literacy rates increase across the Texas Panhandle.”
“I would like to thank The Leaders Readers Network and their community supporters. Through your support and book donations my students have had access to a wide range of multi-cultural books and books to support our social emotional learning. My students have enjoyed reading these books during their independent reading time. I have also had the privilege of watching my students' excitement during our school wide book giveaways. I have had several students take the books home and practice reading them so that they can come back and read them to another class. I love watching their confidence and love for reading grow. Thank you again for your continued support in our future.” -Janiece Littlejohn, Hamlet Elementary teacher
“On behalf of my students and myself, I would like to say, "Thank You!" Thank you for all of the support you give to education in Amarillo! My students get so excited and absolutely love when they get a new book they get to keep for themselves to take home. Some of them have no libraries at home and you are making that possible. It is truly a blessing!” -Leticia Johnson, Whittier Elementary teacher
