Back to School Books & Fellowship Fun!

School bells are ringing, and the excitement is contagious! As classrooms fill with eager students and fresh supplies, there’s a special kind of magic in the air. The start of the school year is all about possibility, connection, and new adventures—and at TLRN, we’re making sure that adventure starts with books.

We are thrilled to kick off our Back-to-School Book Giveaways! Teachers across our Fellowship are opening stacks of brand-new, beautifully chosen books—stories that welcome students back and inspire them to read all year long.

Micah Palomo kicked off the school year with a book giveaway! His fourth grade students are so excited to read Sideways Stories from Wayside School.

Here’s what’s flying off the shelves in our network this fall:

Pre-K to 2nd Grade: I Am Able to Shine by Korey Watari | Ricitos de Oro y los tres osos by Nina Filipek

Pre-K to 1st Grade: Pete the Cat: Too Cool for School by Kimberly & James Dean

2nd to 4th Grade: Sideways Stories from Wayside School & Wayside School Is Falling Down by Louis Sachar

Pre-K to 5th Grade: Sounds like School Spirit by Meg Fleming | Your Future is Bright by Corey Finkle | The Crayons Go Back to School by Drew Daywalt

3rd to 5th Grade: Twins vs Triplets: Back to School Blitz by Jennifer Torres

And our Fellowship teachers had plenty of favorites to share too:

Why Read-Alouds Are Pure Magic

Reading aloud isn’t just fun—it’s a proven way to spark curiosity and set students on a lifelong journey with books. Research shows:

  • Children who are read to five times a day hear about 1.5 million more words by age 5 than those who aren’t—boosting vocabulary and learning confidence. (United Through Reading)

  • Kids who are read to daily are nearly three times as likely to read on their own. (Education Week)

  • 55% of children ages 0–5 enjoy read-alouds at least five days a week, while 37% are read to daily—consistency matters! (Scholastic)

Celebrating the Joy of the New School Year

When teachers open these bright, inviting books and share them with their students, they create moments that build trust, spark joy, and set the tone for the year ahead. These stories help transform classrooms into places where imagination thrives and every student feels welcome.
