My Giving Story is about the impact I made through co-founding the Pay it Forward national project. It is about the 615 student volunteers rallied, the 3,000 brand new books provided, and the 3,000 service hours volunteers received. It is about rallying hundreds of individuals across the country to write words of encouragement to students who may need it during these trying times.

Two Frisco, Texas Students Spread Kindness at the Start of the School Year
When high school students Prisha Mehta and Manogna Jonnalagadda from Frisco, Texas began their journey with the Leaders Readers Network, they never looked back. They began their student ambassador journey during a time when the pandemic hit schools in March 2020. Both realizing the inequities in our education systems, they wanted to do something to help students at underfunded schools.
LRN Founder Wins National Literacy Award
Christopher McGilvery is named the 2020 Judith’s Reading Room Freedom Through Literacy Grand Prize Award winner. Chris is recognized for his unflinching approach to fostering a love of reading by engaging teachers to facilitate “buddy” teams where older students read aloud to younger students, thereby fostering leadership skills, enabling child-centered coaching and exhibiting a love of reading.
National Book Projects Launch
This fall, the Leaders Readers Network is launching our National Book Projects to partner with teachers at Title 1 Schools to provide brand new books to students in underfunded communities. Each book we give will include words of encouragement to inspire and motivate student recipients. Our goal is to provide 30,000 brand new books to students throughout the 2020-2021 school year.
Calling All Students to Volunteer
The Leaders Readers Network partners with students and teachers across the nation to cultivate leaders who provide brand new books, supplies, and projects to support early literacy at underfunded schools. This school year, we are one of the Youth Service America (YSA) Lead Agencies where nonprofits and schools work together to activate thousands of youth volunteers.

As we wrap up our month of celebrations, we are turning our “Thursday” Teacher Giveaways to a weeklong giveaway for teachers. Teachers are the heart of our communities. They empower our youth to discover their potential.
Student Leadership Conference
Join students from across the US and Dominica for our free virtual LRN Student Leadership Conference! Students from The Leaders Readers Network, National Youth Foundation, The Smile Project, and Golden Opportunities are working together to empower students to make a difference. Students in middle school, high school, and college are encouraged to join us to develop new leadership skills, collaborate, and connect with students.
