The Leaders Readers Network Announces New Regional Director and Programs Coordinator to Drive Literacy Initiatives in San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas — The Leaders Readers Network (TLRN) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs. Therese Shields as the new Regional Director for San Antonio. With a rich background in educational leadership, including experience in large-scale teacher induction programs and curriculum development, Shields is well-equipped to drive TLRN’s mission forward. Her focus will be on expanding the Literacy Fellowship and Student Ambassador programs, enhancing early reading skills, and promoting educational equity. Shields’ role will be pivotal in collaborating with schools across Edgewood ISD, Northside ISD, and San Antonio ISD to further TLRN’s efforts in addressing literacy disparities in underserved communities.

Joining Shields is Amber Padilla, our dedicated Program Coordinator, whose passion for literacy and education has been a cornerstone of her career. With a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s in Guidance and Counseling, Amber brings over six years of hands-on teaching experience from Houston ISD. Her journey with TLRN began during college and has since evolved into a significant role in expanding community partnerships and supporting the Literacy Fellowship program. Amber’s commitment ensures that TLRN continues to provide culturally diverse and high-quality books to students in Title I schools, reinforcing the organization’s mission to foster future leaders and avid readers.

The Leaders Readers Network remains steadfast in its mission to empower students and educators by addressing literacy challenges and supporting educational growth. By partnering with local schools and community organizations, TLRN provides essential resources and support to enhance early literacy and combat educational inequities. The combined expertise of Therese Shields and Amber Padilla promises a renewed focus on these critical goals, ensuring that every child in San Antonio has the opportunity to succeed and develop a lifelong love of reading.
